Making a keepsake memory bear from clothing brings comfort and joy and makes an excellent homemade gift. Meet the Creative Director
Amy Terrell
I was born and raised on a dairy farm in Wisconsin. In the year of 2000, I moved to Indiana. I have enjoyed many hobbies over the years, some faded away from my interest. The ones that stuck are farm life, raising chickens, gardening, and sewing.
In 2018 a friend called me after losing a loved one. She was explaining to me how she wanted a memory bear made, but after searching around she felt the options out there were all geared towards children and asked me if I could create a memory bear that could be more sophisticated and suited for adults. I listened to her request and got started on a plan.
It took me several months and many tries of making; adjustments, tearing apart and starting over before the Jointed memory bear was created. I had no idea how special this pattern would be to so many adults. It was then that I started using my pattern for making bears for several other reasons. I had requests for keepsake bears made from a sentimental shirt that represented a first date or the college they attended. The stories and letters from people just warmed my heart and it encouraged me to make some additional patterns to suit the needs of the memory they were wanting to cherish.
At this point, I have created 4 pattern styles to choose from. Although I am still actively taking orders and making bears currently, as things developed, I decided to make these patterns available to others. I have put together instructions with my templates in a user-friendly guide with step-by-step pictures. I have also made tutorial videos.
